Getting Paid to Blog
This is one in a series of articles that I will be developing.
There are a lot of bloggers out there who seem to be making a lot of money and it is very difficult for the new blogger to get established and making some significant income. One way to bring in extra income is to get paid to blog either through adding you blog to a network of blogs or by contributing to an established network.
Pay methods and amount varies and range from a percentage of ad revenue to a regular salary or some combination of both. This first article of many will discuss one of the larger networks: About.com
Advantages
-One of the things that set About.com apart is that they guarantee a monthly salary for up to two years while you get you blog established From the website.
All Guides are paid based on the number of page views their topic generates each month. While it’s impossible to predict the exact amount you’ll make, we guarantee a minimum of $725 per month for all Guides in their first 2 years of service. –As with any other online job, the hours are flexible. However you do have a minimum of articles to write and other set guidelines too meet.
– The About.com network receives millions of visitors so your site will automatically get generous amount of traffic at the start.
– About.com provides and intensive 17 day training program where you will learn how to write various kinds of articles, post them to the custom content management system and then be reviewed by the guide editors. If you graduate, you will then go live and start your blogging career.
Disadvantages:
– Since this is a very large site and is controlled by senior editors, you will not have the freedom of expression that you may have at other sites.
–You cannot miss you deadlines and need to post regularly and this could eventually be a full time job. ( This may be an advantage to some).
–The Prep may be difficult at times and there will be more than one person competing for the spot.
–You cannot submit your own topics. You must choose from one of the available topic posted on the website.
Overall, if you can get past the prep training and graduate to become a full live site guide, this seems a very good way to start out your blogging career. There are even some guides who make over 100k a year.
