Choosing a tax service

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

frustrated.thumbnail.jpg
There are a number of ways that you can find tax services companies. The yellow pages is a good place to start for companies in your area but, depending on where you live, the list of names may be extremely long. It is a good idea to ask your friends, colleagues and business partners to recommend the tax services that they have found helpful and efficient in the past. Then you can call the tax services professionals that you have on your list and discuss your requirements.

The first step in finding the best tax services for your needs is deciding what level of help you require. Perhaps you simply need someone who can file a simple tax return but has to wade through your slightly disorganised accounting documents, or maybe you have a number of employees and need
assistance sorting out their tax withholdings or you may even want all of these tax services, and more. The size of the tax services company may also be an issue. You may want one person to be able to perform all of your tax work, especially if you are only a small business owner or you may want a team of tax professionals and you want to find tax services that have a number of specialists available. Once you have identified the type of tax services then you can begin your search more easily. Your available tax services budget is obviously going to be an issue but you should try to allocate as much money as possible to ensure that you can afford the best possible tax services. Remember that you can incur heavy fines if you have incorrectly filed your tax return or are late paying any type of tax that your business is liable for.

Can you make a living ?

If you’ve ever read an article about eBay, you will have seen the kinds of incomes people make - it isn’t unusual to hear of people making thousands of dollars per month on eBay.

Next time you’re on eBay, take a look at how many PowerSellers there are: you’ll find quite a few. Now consider that every single one of one of them must be making at least $1,000 per month, as that’s eBay’s requirement for becoming a PowerSeller. Silver PowerSellers make at least $3,000 each month, while Gold PowerSellers make more than $10,000, and the Platinum level is $25,000. The top ranking is Titanium PowerSeller, and to qualify you must make at least $150,000 in sales every month!

Printing Costs «

499463341_3c81fa084a_m.jpg

Printing a web page to a color printer can be costly. Especially when printing the useless ads that show up on the page along with the content. Pinter ink is very expensive, not sure why, but Web Worker Daily has some good tips to save money and ink.

My favorite: Print in draft mode. Save the fine printout for final copy. ( Why didn’t I think of that). Also, since black ink is less expensive than color ink, I will print in shades of gray unless I really need th color

Have you any tips to save money and ink ? Post them here

How the Rich think…

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

The following story is a good example of how the rich think about money and how they stay rich…

He told the loan officer that he was going to Philippines on business for two weeks and needed to borrow $5,000. The bank officer told him that the bank would need some form of security for the loan.

Then the man handed over the keys to a new Ferrari parked on the street in front of the bank. He produced the title and everything checked out The loan officer agreed to accept the car as collateral for the loan. The bank’s president and its officers all enjoyed a good laugh at the guy for using a $250,000 Ferrari as collateral against a $5,000 loan.

An employee of the bank then drove the Ferrari into the bank’s underground garage and parked it there. Two weeks later, the guy returned, repaid the $5,000 and the interest, which came to $15.41.

The loan officer said, “Sir, we are very happy to have had and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled. While you were away, we checked you out and found that you are a multi millionaire. What puzzles us is, why would you bother to borrow “$5,000″.

The millionaire replied: “Where else in New York City can I park my car for $15.41 and expect it to be there when I return”

The moral of the story is: Keep the big picture in mind.

Getting Paid to Blog

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

This is one in a series of articles that I will be developing.

There are a lot of bloggers out there who seem to be making a lot of money and it is very difficult for the new blogger to get established and making some significant income. One way to bring in extra income is to get paid to blog either through adding you blog to a network of blogs or by contributing to an established network.

Pay methods and amount varies and range from a percentage of ad revenue to a regular salary or some combination of both. This first article of many will discuss one of the larger networks: About.com

Advantages

-One of the things that set About.com apart is that they guarantee a monthly salary for up to two years while you get you blog established From the website.

All Guides are paid based on the number of page views their topic generates each month. While it’s impossible to predict the exact amount you’ll make, we guarantee a minimum of $725 per month for all Guides in their first 2 years of service. Please see the compensation section of this site for more details.

–As with any other online job, the hours are flexible. However you do have a minimum of articles to write and other set guidelines too meet.

– The About.com network receives millions of visitors so your site will automatically get generous amount of traffic at the start.

– About.com provides and intensive 17 day training program where you will learn how to write various kinds of articles, post them to the custom content management system and then be reviewed by the guide editors. If you graduate, you will then go live and start your blogging career.

Disadvantages:
– Since this is a very large site and is controlled by senior editors, you will not have the freedom of expression that you may have at other sites.

–You cannot miss you deadlines and need to post regularly and this could eventually be a full time job. ( This may be an advantage to some).

–The Prep may be difficult at times and there will be more than one person competing for the spot.

–You cannot submit your own topics. You must choose from one of the available topic posted on the website.

Overall, if you can get past the prep training and graduate to become a full live site guide, this seems a very good way to start out your blogging career. There are even some guides who make over 100k a year.

Next time I will take a look at blogburner

Monitor you webmail inbox

WhiteHat Security :: Trade media

This is a very clever use of systems that is intended for something else. Using a hit counter service to detect when someone open your web based e-mail.

Your Web mail account is a treasure trove of private and potentially valuable information–and thieves know it. In an online interview, one phisher claimed to make thousands of dollars every day by breaking into peoples E-mail accounts and searching for messages that contain financial details.

Normally you cant tell whether youve been hacked in this way. Even if you cannily leave a juicy-sounding e-mail unread, a thief or snoop may read it and then return its status to unread. But with a little bit of know-how, you can create an electronic trip wire that will trigger whenever someone reads a rigged e-mail.

Carland Academy | Learn How to Start Your Own Business

carland-academy.thumbnail.jpg

I cam across this website recently and it got me really thinking about how entrepreneurs are developed. The Carland Academy will teach you to become a small business owner and even offers a certificate program.

From the website

Our faculty is made up of scholar entrepreneurs. Every member of our faculty is first, and foremost, an experienced entrepreneur. In addition, our faculty are well respected educators whose research and reputations place them among the leading entrepreneurship scholars in the world.

The lead faculty include Dr. James Carland and Dr. JoAnn Carland. Together, they have cofounded more than a dozen companies, and they continue to be active in venture creation and venture management. They have coauthored more than a dozen books, more than 70 articles in scholarly journals, and more than 200 papers in scholarly proceedings. They are internationally known in entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship education.

This seems very interesting and I will be looking into this more. Have you taken a courses similar to this ? If so , let me know how you did.

Career Advice … Wait, from who ?

The Dilbert Blog: Career Advice

Wait, I know what you are thinking. Career advice from man who draws badly for a living , right.

He does actually make sense and it is an interesting read. I especially like to following from the blog:

If you want an average successful life, it doesn’t take much planning. Just stay out of trouble, go to school, and apply for jobs you might like. But if you want something extraordinary, you have two paths:

1. Become the best at one specific thing.
2. Become very good (top 25%) at two or more things.

The first strategy is difficult to the point of near impossibility. Few people will ever play in the NBA or make a platinum album. I don’t recommend anyone even try.

Its the second strategy that he says is more obtainable and I tend to agree.

What is the best career advice you ever got ?
